Total Depravity

Theology Thursday, March 4, 2021

Today I’m starting Theology Thursday (don’t expect Taco Tuesday): I’ll give the name of a truth I believe is taught in Scripture and give a brief explanation & application.

TOTAL DEPRAVITY  is the Biblical teaching that human beings since Adam’s sin have inherited both the guilt and sin nature of Adam in such a way that  everything about being human is affected by sin. This does not mean every person is as sinful as they could possibly be. It does mean, that every part of a person has been corrupted – the heart, mind, will, affections, desires, critical thinking, everything, so that no person is in and of himself able to truly desire or rightly will any spiritual good

APPLICATION: The Gospel of Jesus Christ does not address only acts of sin we are aware of; it addresses the essence of who we are in Adam. This is why Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”— John 3:3

Ephesians 2:1-3; Romans 3:9-18; 5:12-19; Matthew 7:11; Mark 7:18-23.
